There is something
remarkable and unique happening in Central/Eastern Europe and North
America. The performance, development, and study of Musical Theatre
Performing Arts has become an international phenomenon. With the ever
rising sales of American Broadway Classics on video, cassette and CD,
the interest in seeing, performing and developing works in this genre
continues to expand.
The McClinton Musical Theatre Arts Foundation is the direct results
of this ever increasing demand for knowledge, material and excellence
of performance. Founded in February of 2002, the newly formed organization
sought to create a center for the d0evelopment, study and presentation
of musical theatre endeavors. Since musicals are not germane to this
region of the world and the quality of training is unsatisfactory, developing
an entity that would foster excellence, creativity and artistry prove
to be a major motivating factor in creating a Musical Theatre Arts organization.
Thanks to the kind
support and generous grant from the Senior Fulbright Scholars Exchange
program, Dr. Calvin A. McClinton was able to implement and structure
a foundation whose primary mission is to offer assistance and support
for this specific art.
Over the past year MMTAF has offered support to three artists in developing
new theatre works, four workshop presentations of a new musical, five
studio classes in vocal training for the musical stage and one seminar
on the business of theatre management.
